Getting Rid of the Electoral College Blight (1 Viewer)

As this incredible waste of time comes to a close, I will say that I am personally delighted President Trump received majority support from both the popular vote and the Electoral College.

This give us the chance that the two ideologies will work a little closer together for the good of the country, instead of only the good of their Party and it's greedy assed leaders.

I know, it's hard for many Right, and far Left, Wingers to comprehend that compromise is actually good for the people.

Nowadays, 18 year Olds aren't old enough to do most things.
I agree. Unfortunately they still carry the guns for us.
Wow. You're even agreeing with me and at the same time, still calling me stupid.
We don't think you are stupid but what is stupid is blaming Trump for paying no taxes. That gives you the appearance of being stupid. If you were to praise Trump for being smart enough to take advantage of the tax code, that would be rational. Insinuating that Trump is doing something illegal and blaming him for taking advantage of the tax code is just stupid and is an attempt to spread lies and besmirch Trump's good name. You hate him because you believe the lies told by people like you. I can't say that i like Trump but I also see through the lies people like you spread.

I don't know if you are a parent but if you are, you know that you don't call a child "bad" because they do something you disapprove of. You criticize the action and work to prevent future occurrences. You are pushing the lie that Trump is somehow "bad" because he is smart enough to take advantage of the tax code. It is simply not "bad" to take advantage of the tax code. It is smart. What p***** people off is that Trump has the temerity to brag about it rather than apologize for it the way other politicians would. By pushing the lie that Trump is bad, you are also implying that the majority of American voters are stupid or worse - bad themselves for voting for a "bad" man. Get over it.

Even though the poor don't pay income taxes, the tax code very much favors the rich. The more money you have to spend on tax accountants, the more money they can save you. That is wrong but no one asked me when they were writing the rules. But, despite the tax code favoring the rich, they still pay the bulk of all income taxes collected.

I'll take that as a side step.

Do you really think that Senators are not corrupt? How about Pelosi and McConnell just to name two. By having the states appoint Senators who will help the state that nominated them, you may find there is less corruption. Don't forget how costly an election campaign is and how they are financed. Since the state appoints, the state can recall so there is actual accountability that we do not currently have.

Changing the process so that the public elects the Senators was a Progressive idea. I think the Progressives are generally pretty evil. They're the ones who Hitler modeled his superior race theories on and they're the ones who push the euthanasia solution. They also believe in abortion in the delivery room while the mother is in labor. You should do some research into the downright evil laws that were passed here in the US in the early part of the 20th century as a result of this movement. Look at the sterilization laws and the laws that allowed husbands to have their wives or daughters committed to insane asylums.
The legislatures will pick a Senator from their own party. That means only constituents from one party will be represented. How is this fair? Illinois has had republican Senators before. We will never have another one if the legislature gets pick.

Though out history the only reason poor people were allowed to live was to fight wars, build buildings , and grow food. They will not be needed for those things very soon.
I can't argue with that. The question then becomes WHY did Biden and Harris import 10+ million illegal immigrants who don't speak the language and have no way to support themselves so they are now living on our dime? Could it be that we need cannon fodder for a new war or slaves? Why else would the vast majority of the imports be military age males.

He bragged about it on National TV years ago.. You guys are so funny, every single thing negative about Trump is part of a conspiracy.
Again, where's your fvckin proof. I've had tax clients brag that they don't pay taxes. They laugh when I look at them.

Every once in a while Connecticut also has a Republican Senator or even a Republican Governor. They are more likely to be fiscally responsible. The system we have now doesn't work for anyone except the Senators who join the club and become multi-millionaires. In theory, Senators appointed by state legislatures would be working for the goals of the state rather than passing legislation that benefits their donors. It's a different mindset and should be less party-centric. Getting the money out of the elections goes pretty far toward minimizing the rampant corruption we have today. We have at least a half dozen Republican Senators who regularly vote the Democrat party line. Trump is a Democrat at heart, not a Republican. Of course Trump is an old style Kennedy Democrat with some ingrained fiscal responsibility. He doesn't subscribe to the whack a doodle views of the current progressive wing which leans very Communist. Or, we should say "Socialist" because we have to hide the cold hard facts by using language to obscure the party's intentions.

Fortunately, in the real world, most people do actually subconsciously use that scale
I'm a big believer in the phrase "it's a question of degree/extent" ... it applies to almost every issue I rant about.
It's why I vote Republican usually, degrees and extent - not perfection

I'll take that as a side step.
I'm not answering anyone's post. I am however, offering up evidence that I actually am an Independent.

It's a real shame that people can be so brainwashed that they are unable to be objective about their beliefs.

Your language is so straight out of the propaganda machine, you can't even hear yourself. They didn't import anyone.

That's not exactly the same, yours is watered down and you are still applying it to generalates. It take more cognitive discipline to hash out an individual issue. I don't find myself agreeing with either party most of the time. It takes a effort to be a critical thinker.

I don't owe you anything. The recording of him bragging about being too smart to pay taxes is out there for you to see for yourself,

As usual, completely out of context. Sometimes, you might try using one tenth as many words to make a point. Genius is often simplifying complex concepts, not complicating simple one.

The legislatures will pick a Senator from their own party. That means only constituents from one party will be represented.
Essentially, there is no practical difference whether it is the legislature picking a senator along party lines, or the public voting for a senator as that would also be a reflection of the senator being selected along party lines. If 51% of the public votes for a Republican senator, there is no guarantee that that senator would accept/respond to Democratic party policy requests even though 49% of votes may have come from Democrats.

Even if the the senator is select by the legislature, that senator may occasionally go against the party that selected that individual. If that happens, the senator may find that he/she is immediately out of a job, assuming that I recall correctly how the process worked before the 17th Amendment was passed as the senator worked at the pleasure of the state legislature. Under the current process a senator is essentially "safe" for six years.

Why? Are you upset?
What I meant was that statement was not a rebuttal, it was an observation. I don't get upset over this kind of stuff. What's coming is bigger than politics. Although, Trump will take credit for the improvements that are coming, in spite of the Fed lowering the rates before he was even inaugurated. Just like Biden was blamed for the inflation and higher Gas prices, which are not the same by the way, and happened under Trump 1.

That's politics, take credit when you can try and avoid the blame. Everyone does it.

As an observer I have really enjoyed following this thread for a number of reasons:

I really admire the passion that Americans put into their politics.

I am amused that a system (EC) invented to cater with the communication and travel problems of 200 plus years ago, which have long disappeared, still exists. The arguments verge on arguing about who get what deck chair on the Titanic.

I am reassured that we in the UK aren't the only ones to have a dysfunctional political system.

And reality is recognizing which is which.

You accuse us of falling for Conservative propaganda but refuse to see that you have fallen for Liberal propaganda. Each of us reads what we can when we can, listens to news shows that don't sound like an idiotic rant (for an example, Cenk Uygur as one such extreme ranter), and thinks about events as life and events around us allow. I apply that even to you. But in this country we are allowed to state our positions and disagree with others. I respectfully suggest that your position is seriously jaundiced with Progressive Liberal regurgitation.
