Gun laws do they work

Would you believe that it took me from Jan 18 to June 28 to get my concealed weapons permit? Thy jerked me around three times. First they said I had not paid. I showed them a canceled check. Then they said my application wasn't notarized. My bank called them and gave them the notarized number. They said it didn’t matter I had to send them another application again notarized with a letter from the bank stating it is notarize now. Then thy said that my fingerprints were not readable. I went back to the police department had new fingerprints taken with a letter from the sheriff stating that these are certified to be readable. Now you tell me, would I go thru all that and then run out the back door.
I like my permit better that I had in Massachusetts. I didn’t have to conceal it. I was allowed to wear my weapon on the outside.

Don't know how FL law is but TN law is that it does not have to be concealed. It is a Handgun Carry Permit. The Gov. is giving everyone hell about owning a gun. I have had a pretty little 380 on order for the last 9 months. Suppose to be here soon.--Hope so. Hard to conceal a big caliber.

No, I will not run then. If they are on my property, I will block them from leaving, call the law... If they threaten me in any way, hope it is not a deadly threat.

have a great day :)

Unfortunately, FL law says I have to conceal it.

Why do they think that it is better concealed than carried openly ?

I have no problem with that, I have a problem with the shoot on sight , no warning , etc approach

What a bummer.I think it is just as well they stay concealed. I think I have enough guts to strap on a holster and carry one in plain site. Don't like to call attention to myself.

Of course, down in FL. the response for the Lawdogs may be less than it is here. Usually about 10-15 mintues for the county sherriffs deputies to get here. Some places more. The cities here are just as bad cause by traffic jams, etc.

Have a great day :)

That appears to be a contradiction, is there a word missing?

Gun laws only take guns out of the hands of people that would legally use them. Just because you ban something doesn't mean that it ceases to exist.

ME TOO!

But for the record, most of the ones that might in all probability shoot first would be those with a shotgun or a large caliber rifle.

Have a great day:)

We are talking about gun control not banning guns, please keep.

Anybody want to reply to a serious question?

Brian
Years ago (MA) I carried openly (permit)
Today I think even if someone had a open permit, and they walked into a store people would go berserk, and I don't think I could blame them. You see it's not guns that is the problem, but the culture.

I agree with the culture problem. When I see someone carrying an open weapon, I instinctively wonder if they have a permit, if they are an officer of the law in some form or are they someone who enjoys running afoul of the law. If I think like this and I have a carry permit, what are others who do not have a permit or just plain don't like guns going to think. A lot of them are going to go bonkers.

One other item for your concealed vs. carry out in the open discussion.

Most thugs, etc. will bypass an area or store, where the possibility of guns present is very high. If they do decide to cause problems and they can see your gun, you are likely to be taken care of first. In this case, concealment gives you the benefit of surprise. A surprise that might just save your life.

Have a great day :)

Thanks for the response Blade but I was after the official line, surely for them the advantage of open carry is that it makes it easier for the law to check permits.

I understand your concerns and an additional one could be the sartorial cost of open carry. :D

OK'---- In TN the "hand gun Carry permit" does not state that it has to be concealed. They had a problem with people who did not agree with the permit either way. They actually tried and did take extraordinary steps to find a weapon on an individual and then called the law to arrest the person because the gun was not concealed. Thus perpetual time in court plus confiscation of your gun. This was from a permit trainer.

The law in Florida seems to be a little more complicated. A whole lot of tourist are there. A gun in site might scare tourist away. Also, since it states it has to be concealed, it would be hard to carry hidden on a bikini or spedo? LOL. Maybe D7A can expand on the Floridian official line.

Today, I saw a worker--cutting brush on a hill. He had summertime clothes on fit for cutting brush. On his side he a gun in plain site. Obviously this was for snakes unless he was expecting company. LOL. Either way, I did give him a second look just in case.

It might be easier to check a person to see if they are carrying in plain site but when I come upon a roadblock and have a weapon on me, I give them both my drivers license and handgun carry permit.

Have a nice day :)

Sorry I should have said thanks for the response.

I suspect that this thread has run its course, everybody has said what they have to say, many, many times.

Here's a question that will be ignored, especially by the pseudo macho pseudo religious yanks.

Has anyone here actually shot someone, either dead or wounded them under any circumstances - ie. peace or war or so called self defence?

In war, Americans are so trigger happy, they shoot their allies, women and children, and in peacetime they shoot each other so statistically someone here must have shot someone at sometime.

America trigger happy. Look at your own country's past. War see no faces or ages. Even more so now that we have drones.

The answer to your question is No (for myself)

So far all have avoided taking a life.

Have a nice day :)

Isn't it incredible. Over 1000 posts on this thread, maybe about 400 or 500 by Americans saying how wannabe machismo they are carrying guns and believing in the bible and being good Christians.
We've had one member stuck in an RV with a gang outside banging on the side - did he shoot anyone? No, of course not.
We've also got a pseudo long distance psychiatrist who has guns under the pillow, and on the dinner table and carries one everywhere, has he shot anyone? - no of course not.
According to the TV, most American men join the army, so some here must have been in Vietnam or Iraq or somewhere where their lunatic president invaded. Have they shot anyone? - no of course not.
We have Christian female here who has guns on top the wardrobe. Shot anyone?
No - of course not.

Most yanks here would be the same as everyone, too bloody scared or too late to get to the gun, the wife and kids are dead.
