Gun laws do they work

I find it amazing how Americans can write off over 300 deaths by the gun every week. The casual dismissal of such atrocities is down to having the right to bear arms and kill people. Because its "in the constitution".

Imagine a jumbo jet crashing every week with over 300 people killed, would there be such a casual approach to this? The airlines who did the crashing have the right to fly and killing 300+ a week is just a by- product.

You can bet your life the US government would pass laws to stop it quicker than you can say Columbine or Sandy something.
The protests of airline companies would mean nothing.

Why do the protests of gun owners carry so much power?

What is the difference between 300+ dying by the gun and a jumbo a week crashing killing 300+?

Perhaps it's because the gun deaths are evenly spread, whereas a jumbo is compact and all in one place.

PS, what happened to the AK47 thread?

A question.

Is it possible to fire a gun underwater? Like if swimming or taking a bath with a gun in the water.

Oh, and nobody want to answer my previous questions?

Col

Yes a gun will fire underwater!

Have a nice day:>)

I don't have any facts, but I think imposing bans on countries where they're common is silly now. It's kind of like the whole prohibition thing.

Lets look at the murder and gun death rates in the two countries with the HIGHEST number of guns per person. Switzerland and Israel, murders rates are extremely low (Not counting the civil war in Israel) What is different? Well training, personal responsibility are way way higher in these two countries. Would you like to see murder rates, and gun ownership in the USA drop like a stone. Try this out, "You can own any gun you want, as many bullets you want. But you are responsible for that gun and any/everything it does." So if your gun is stolen and used in a bank robbery you are guilty of the associated crimes (Ballistics would show who's gun is who's). Now ignoring all the issues of proving who's gun is who's. Gun owners say "Why should I be responsible if my gun is stolen" Simple, you wanted it you are responsible for it. Like owning a dangerous animal or a pile of explosives. Better question for a society is "Why should my life be in danger by your stolen gun?" Problem in the USA is the feeling on entitlement, no one takes responsibility for their choices.

very good, now give the murder and gun death rates in the two countries with the lowest number of guns per person.

Don't think you would want to be my neighbor. I have a sign in my front yard, that states " This home is protected by myself and Smith&Wesson. The next door neighbor is a gun control activist and has no guns in his home.

Whose house is going to get a visit first?

Have a good day:>)

The house most likely to get broken into is the one with the best stuff to steal. the house who's ocupents are more likely to be shot? the one with the guns. the robbers will shoot before the home owner does.

Question, since robbery does not carry the death penalty. if you shoot and kill an unarmed robber are you not guilty of murder?

This from the newspaper USA Today.

"The new law, which goes into effect July 1, allows licensed gun owners in Georgia and visitors from 28 other states to bring a gun into a bar without restrictions and carry a firearm into some government buildings that don't have security measures. It also allows school districts to decide whether they want some employees to carry a firearm and religious leaders to decide whether to allow licensed gun owners to tote to their church, synagogue or mosque."

Interesting this law was signed almost on the anniversary of the sandy hook massacre.

Lets face it, the yanks will never have the intelligence or sense to give up guns. Who cares if dozens of children are killed. Pointless to continue discussing it really.

Very true. We all remember the Columbine school shooting. What most people do not realize is that the major employer in the area is Colt Firearms. Need I say more....

Sorry I guess I am not going to ask if he/she is armed. By the way, most occupants are ready and willing to pull the trigger.

Georgia just passed a law allowing everyperson to carry a gun anytime, anywhere they want. Is someone going to rob a convenience center knowing that probably 90% of the people in there is packing. Think NOT!

Liberals believe that if you are submissive, you will be ok. Submissive to who---another liberal!

To answer your second question: NO-----If he/she comes into your home uninvited, the do so at their own peril.

Thank you! You have 100% proved my point. Americans refuse to take responsibility for their actions. What if the robber was not a robber, but someone who stepped into the wrong house by mistake? Maybe in the USA, the family of the victims should use the wrongful death suites and sue the shooter for millions.

I am 52 years old, never heard a gun shot in my life, probably never will. Not many Americans in large cities can say the same. As yes we have gun violence in Canada, and every single gun was bought in the USA.

Hi Gregory, I see that you are new here, if you can spare a few hours reading you will find the strange anomaly that those who thump the bible most on the "are you an atheist" thread are the quickest on the trigger on this one.

Unfortunately the use of weapons appears to be increasing in this country. I blame TV and immigration.

Brian

ban guns, TV and immigration

Ken! You must be delighted at the new gun laws passed in Georgia.
Just think, you can now buckle up your holster in your Sunday best, tootle off to church on Sundays, polish your gun during the sermon, pledge allegiance to your god, then come home and kill a teenage girl burglar just in case she has an AK47 hidden.

Actually, I exaggerate, no gunslinging yank on a these forums has 'fessed up to actually using a gun in anger on another person, only innocent defenceless animals.

Hey Col - long time, How are things? If I remember you had considered retiring?

I read in the news that Oscar Pistorius has changed his stance on private weapon possession. He used to love his guns. He never used to go out without "packing heat", owned a large number of powerful guns, had just bought a brand new magnumwhatever (the MOST POWERFUL blah blah blah) and in fact slept with a gun at his bedside.
All of a sudden he says he never wants to see another gun.
I wonder what made him change his mind, just like that.

Did that ken. Paid off the mortgage with some of the lump sum payment I got. Got the works pension now, then I get the state pension in October as well.

Nice being in bed during the rush hour! Do a bit on the garden and greenhouse. Go to town spend an hour or so having coffee with friends.

All in all, not bad, still having students staying - got two more next week actually.

Still do a bit here, actually, posted this week for first time in months. It's so boring on these forums now compared to 10 years ago, far too strict now, can't say anything without getting told off or banned.

Even Brian hinted my comments vouch for nothing because I am "childless and sexist".

Anyway, who cares? How about you?

Col
