Gun laws do they work

I don't 'feel the need to bear arms' per se Brian. I love target shooting, I enjoy the camaraderie that goes with it, everyone having the same interest etc. The real issue with the banning of firearms in the UK is that when you outlaw guns, only the outlaws have guns. I can obtain a firearm legally in the UK, however, should I want to go pistol shooting with a live round weapon, not an air weapon, I have to belong to and attend a pistol club for at least six months, and the real downer on this is that the pistol MUST have a barrel length of no less than 14 INCHES! FORTEEN INCHES!!! To me, that's a small rifle... 'standard' assault rifles have a barrel length of around 16 inches so a 14" pistol is ridiculous and for that reason I choose not to bow to the crass stupidity of our government to comply with something that, by nature of being a British Citizen, should be my right as defined in the Magna Carta.

Yeah, I hunt deer with a 10 inch barrel on a pistol. Can't use it much for anything else except maybe target practice and that is getting expensive with the large caliber shells.

Are they carried in schools and on campus because if memory serves me right that is where they seem to happen, on the theatre a shoot out May do more harm than good.
I got the impression that the perps were a bit mentally challenged and they might not , therefore, think it through.

Brian

That is the whole point Brian. If you post signs or have places that are off limits to concealed weapons, then the NUTs can come in.... shoot until the police get there, 5-10 minutes and ........................

For that reason, I will not go into a theater, restaurant or store where they have posted a sign that bans concealed weapons from the premises. Not because I might or might not be carrying, but rather because they are putting my wife and myself at risk. Honey to a fly so to speak.

Who are you Michael Gove or something - Teachers get blamed for everything- what about the parents and personnel responsibility.

I don't think Bladerunner would have any idea who Michael Gove is. Come to that, does anyone know what he actually does except screw our education system up wholesale...

At the risk of opening up a whole new can of worms, my personal opinion is that most politicians have no clue as to what the general population would like / need as long as they have power. As far as I can tell, it seems that power is all they care about and all they crave (much as I crave for nicotine). Politicians, both here in the UK, and in the US are full of promises before they get their office and then, instead of fulfilling the promises they made, find some excuse as to why it would be impossible to carry out what they actually promised due to lack of funds / lack of support from their own peers / lack of interest or lack of time. The politicians are supposed to be OUR mouthpiece, nothing more, nothing less. If the US government actually listened to their own citizens they would hear nearly 300 million people screaming at them to get their house in order so they can govern the country properly. In the UK, it's worse, scream as we might, 60 million voices aren't heard for what we actually WANT. They pussy foot around being all politically correct, trying not to upset minority groups (and I'm not being racist, ageist, religionist or anything else-ist here, it's important you understand that point) but, if you want to live and work in the UK (or the US for that matter), we have our own existing culture, way of life and standards. Stop your whining, get on with life at least to our standards and (after firing all of the politicians and getting real people in power), listen to what the people want (Right to Bear Arms anyone?), and we wonder why the world is in such as mess! It's because we, the ordinary man in the street, let the politicians run our countries as a nanny state and interfere with every other country regardless of if they want us to or not. What a mess!

There, I feel better for that...

Interesting

Israel and Switzerland are similar in the sense they train and equip their youth with firearms along with military service. Nothing new they been doing it for a long time.

Appears at least one EU nation has more sense than they have liberals.

I wonder if Dick and Blade read past the headlines and got to this statement

Automatic weapons are banned

Isn't that what a lot of us have been advocating during this over long thread.

Despite that

Within Europe, Switzerland holds the second-highest rate of gun-related deaths after Finland, three times that of Germany and over 10 times that of the United Kingdom.

Thanks Dick, that was a great link for proving what all the non gun nuts have been saying.

Israel's not in the EU - nor does it have more sense than liberals - the exact opposite unfortunately? Which country were you misapplying your logic to?
