I was speaking in the abstract, not the specific.

What Ukraine can do to Russia is the other side of that barbarian situation. If you can't beat the barbarians, then what do you do next? Martyr yourself, relocate, or surrender?

Neither of the above. The barbarians are a nuclear power that cannot be ignored. You allow the United States to try to broker a peace deal, and it may involve ceding a little land OR giving up some of your precious minerals in exchange for the billions in support.
