On the feed guide slot in the table, there are small tabs that prevent the guide from coming up. Kind of like a t-slot set up. Well what I was thinking of doing is grinding these tabs off so that I can make a custom feed slide jig with a rail on the bottom that sits in these slots but these small tabs are in the way. Do you think I'd be messing up my saw? (Or does any of this make sense?)

That is actually referred to as a T-Slot. If you grind the tabs off of your cross slide you will lose the ability to use it to produce downward pressure on the stock if you need it.
