I think you're a little behind the times. With e-verify construction companies aren't hiring people with no documentation. But they may be hiring people with borrowed documentation

They hire subs that are legal. The subs hire whomever. After a while the irs catches on. For mostly the borrowed ones.

If the sub tried to get in someone who wasn't legal, that sub would not only lose the contract but the management of the sub company would be black-listed. Saw it happen once in a parallel contract that didn't affect me (different sub-contractor). To say that things got a bit cray-cray doesn't quite cut it.

The AI and robot replacement will be far more disruptive because new jobs will not be created as a byproduct. With people having no work to occupy them, what will they do? Spend all day on social media as the dumbos do today? I guess we'll need more people to grow marijuana because we need the mind dulling effects to keep people content to lie in their lounge chairs pushing buttons. We won't need new cars because we don't have anywhere to go. We don't need Cruise ships because we don't have any money to take vacations.

There is a class of people who hate work or who have no skills with which to obtain interesting work. My biggest blessing in life was being born with a brain that enabled me to go into a line of work that I love so much I would pay to do it. And on this site I give it away for free just because I enjoy solving problems and helping others. But the large majority of people, even if they don't necessarily love what they do, at least take pride in being able to be a contributing member of society. What happens to those people when there is no meaningful work for them to do? this is a huge problem for society and no one is thinking very hard about the societal problems caused by the coming displacement that are looming in the not too distant future.

Disruptive it will be. Utopia or dystopia. Perspective will depend on your position in the new economic/social environment. There can be many and unforeseen consequences. What will our masters - the political class - do to adjust to the disruption?

• Do nothing - allow massive unemployment? Discontent? Greater rich/poor divide? Fewer people in privileged roles? But then economics depends on the money circulating - with high unemployment it probably means less spending except on essentials: contraction of the economy and likely the rich nations reverting to the mean (they become poorer - at least for the majority of the population). Increasing use of social media and social distractions - drugs, sport, politics?
• Retraining - new jobs, new industries (betting on what may not occur?). Reliance on manual but not factory-style jobs or personal service roles? Will people aspire to work? - only if they perceive it as worth their time (rewarding) While these be skilled jobs or unskilled fill-in-your-time style work? Will education become more highly prized?
• Social Wage / Shorter working week/ forced job sharing? Volunteerism to "earn" the social wage?

The concept of working for a living will be subject to re-evaluation - and only those who pay taxes can vote - as some advocate will disenfranchise many.

Is do nothing an option - or is it unrealistic? They might try to be reactive and do something when disruption occurs but not be very effective - too late to retrain, too costly to implement. Does it mean the economy needs to be planned and managed - less laissez-faire?

You can't expect companies to recognize "borrowed" documentation unless multiple employees "borrowed" from the same person. HOWEVER, everify has the ability to recognize the theft. What does the IRS and SSA do when they get reports of multiple jobs for the same person when the duplication makes no sense at all. Full time jobs in Georga and California. Four full time jobs in Georga. Etc. At least find the obvious cheats and prosecute them. My brother has been caught up in this problem. His SSN was stolen and the IRS is dinging him for under reporting income. They aren't going to win but my brother STILL needed a lawyer to get them to stop harassing him and at least investigate the improbable situation where he is living in NC but working in Alabama.

I never wanted Biden to be President, for reasons separate from these event's, which need to be investigated and followed up. And, if it turns out the his liars are half as good as Trump's, then he too will live out his life outside of iron bars.
