What's your best/worst joke?

The ** imply gentlemanly conduct, had he spelt the word out or pointed it at someone specifically then it could have been deemed offensive.
This is an international forum, you really can't expect everything to be wrapped up in cotton wool.

There was a time when few swore at all, those days have long gone, anyway if one looks back through this thread there have been many more near the knuckle jokes posted without controversy, why single this one out?

Go back to my original post. All I said was that it was not original. I never said a word about it being appropiate. In your post back you said he was a perfect gentleman. My remarks back are that not too awfully long ago a gentleman would not have used language like that, especially in front of ladies. As far as not saying anything in the past. I'm new to the watercooler so I haven't seen them, but even if I had, I don't whether I would say anything or not, but if your going to comment that someone is a perfect gentleman, by using ** and still getting a vulgar point across, then I may come back to tell you I don't agree.

But you're missing the point in that one mans meat is anothers poison, do you not see that you're imposing your morals on others that don't even live in your country.
I mean you might just as well argue that nobody outside the US has the right to criticise it, you're in effect condoning those who say the West should not post cartoons of Mohamed because someone finds them offensive.

I don't consider requesting a little courtesy to be imposing one's morals. We're not talking about government trying to censor art or the media, we're talking about the member's of this forum putting a slight effort to be considerate of other members.

Man, how in the world do you take something that someone says and twist it so far down the road that you have them having an opinion about Mohamed cartoons? I think your the one that is missing MY point. I did not pass my morality one anyone. I made a comment to your comment of the definition of a perfert gentleman, that's all. Pushing my morality on you, Uncle Gizzmo, or anyone else would have been me telling you how you should act or talk. I merely stated that the definition of a perfect gentleman has certainly changed in a short amount of time.

Ah, you mean it was just a general observation, would it be aimed at American society today, or everybody

Mainly an American society because that's what I know best but I would imagine, all societies as a whole. Just seems like as each generation goes by respect, manners, being a gentleman, a lady all seem to be taken far less seriously than say my Grandparents would have been.

But then if we travel down that road we'd have to take into account that there might be say Muslims posting here who could easilly take offence at valid criticisms we have of their way of life.
We know there are Bush supporters here who are offended by our criticisms of him and his methods, do we have to consider them too?
Who decides what's offensive and what isn't ?

I don't know if there is a "who" that decides but I think someone using some common sense may help a little with that question.

The good old days eh, gone forever I'm afraid

But they are using their morals which simply aren't yours

Yes sir, and in my opinion, too bad. Now we get to live with a man knocking a lady down to go through the door before she does. A kid saying, "yelp" and "nope" to an adult instead of "yes, ma'am" or "no sir" Listen to as many f-bombs as someone wants to throw, and so on and so forth.

Or lack of them. I think someone would be hard pressed to try a argue a point of doing wrong is OK. They're not a right way to do a wrong thing. Most folks, have at least some idea of what the right thing to do is and they know when their foot is on the line. A person can argue about why it's alright for them to do a wrong thing but that still doesn't make it right.

But who says it's wrong ?

I hate to say it, but one could say you're just getting old  ;)

Once again, I don't think there's a who. Do you steal? Do you need to be told whether it's right or wrong? I just think, if someone is at least truthful with themselves, then there are plenty of things that don't need to be told by anyone whether it's right or wrong. They just know. You notice I said plenty of things. We will probably always have the problem that there a folks about us that what to call wrong, right. There a people who think having sex with children is right. Do you need to be told whether it is or not? Probably in those cases there has to be a who that says that's wrong.

Off work now and need to run home. Maybe we can pick it up again some other time.

Have a good weekend

Dang I can't believe you said that out loud. Now I get to be on your list of offended people.:)

Can we move this discussion to another thread? I thought I was going to get a good joke, and it turns out to be pages of disagreement. Let's get this thread back on track!!! And go ahead and use your offensive words, I don't care. I may comment, but that's about all.

I think you've already cursed plenty, according to the quote below:

I find the term George Bush the most offensive term I've ever heard, thus you can wait 'till he's removed before removing a word that's part of every day conversation in some cultures

In fact, I think you're very vulgar. :D
