Coronavirus - are we all doomed?

Here is just ONE story I found. There are a few more, but this is just getting started.

Unfortunately we have a similar problem in Australia. Our PM is even dumber than Trump and is an evangelist.

Aww, damn, G. I would have put an icon from the "Like" group but they didn't have a "commisseration" smiley.

because I *have* helped questions askers here as of late

Yep. Helped someone with totally false information about update queries in a loop and acting as though they were asynchronous when you didn't know anything about the environment. With that kind of help, the person would NEVER find out anything useful. So much help that we have to clean up after you. MAYBE about 10% of the "help" I have seen you give actually had any substance to it. But then, even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

what would you say if I said I hang out here and respond to you guys strictly to humor myself and have fun?

Yeah, you're a real hoot, that's for sure. What did you do to humor yourself before you were old enough and able to go online? Pull wings off of dragonflies?

Not saying I agree with all of it but what about an out of work mother who gets caught boosting a box of diapers? Possible death sentence? Hard to social distance in a 6 x 8 cell.

just wait until the unemployment runs out in a few months. Crime rate is going to go through the roof.

Absolutely we can agree on the boosting of diapers. But to be honest those arrests are really not being pursued. At least in places like Frisco.

We have a homeless man in Australia who was convicted of trespass for dumpster-diving to retrieve a flavoured milk and a pie. He was taken to court and fined $250. Of course someone getting discarded food from a dumpster would have plenty of cash to pay a fine.

this whole post of yours richard, is a little stupid. after everything I've shown you, you would respond to me this way after a simple joke? that's disappointing, man.

Do you feel that's a reaction to COVID-19? Because the releases here are.

The US has a complete idiot in charge who started out claiming it was a hoax, kept making ridiculous suggestions and expects everything is going to be fine by Easter.

@Galaxiom
I've watched so many movies when human race was in danger, either being attacked by other planets or some kind of disease or war, and then US president stands in front of everyone, leading whole countries to fight for man kind, even he, himself take part in the actual events of attacking enemy.

Was it The Independence Day movie when United States President pilots a fighter and attacks the alien's mothership?

The other day, I saw several videos where even the name of corona virus or some lady explaining she had a fever, made president Trump run away the scene.
Now I know a movie is completely different with real world. Movies made by American Studios are made just to brain wash the people. But when a real hero is needed to lead the people, he's hiding in the basement of white house.

The initial part of the post you quoted wasn't about a joke, it was about a tragedy. A tragedy of misinformation. So yes, this is the way I respond. You commented out of the blue in one of the "Introduction" threads that you and I are at war. Not true because I would never do something physically violent to you, it's not my way and I am not at war with you. I merely step in to prevent total misinformation. Just as others will step in when you screw things up again and again.

Nothing stopping the rest of the world from stepping up. Were doing the best we can. Sorry it's not enough for some.

No, Tera, the real heroes are not in the White House. They are the retired health-care workers who came out of retirement to help sick people despite being in the age group of greatest risk. They are the current health-care workers like my nephew B., who is one of (I think) five fully licensed respiratory therapists in the state of Mississippi. He works in harrowing conditions all day then comes home and warns his family to keep their distance. They give him room while he goes to take a bath and change clothes and eats whatever is available. Then he sleeps on a camping cot in the garage of his own home because he doesn't want to spread corona virus to his medically fragile wife and his kids. He's a specialized health-care worker who has been declared essential personnel. He can't shirk that duty or take a break unless he actually catches COVID-19 himself. But he does the job for which he was trained and keeps on helping sick people. My nephew and hundreds of others like him are the heroes. Sometimes it isn't bullets zipping through the air that does the damage, but rather it is droplets of moisture floating after a sneeze or cough. But he's on the front lines of the battle.

Yes, NG, it is easy to slip up. Gotta watch that.
This will be my last off-topic post on this thread, I promise.

Doc, the problem is you think you are dealing with a rational, pragmatic being - an adult who wants to have a meaningful conversation. You are not -THAT I can assure you.

Once you disabuse yourself of that expectation, it will become much easier.

just making comments after things that I've seen happen. :) don't want others to experience the same things with this program, that's all.

I can't quite understand the reporting of positive cases and deaths from the virus from whatever country.

In the UK, we apparently report on cases that have been tested, it is obvious there are 10's of thousands who have it but not been tested - so not reported in official figures. The smaller the number of tests, the smaller the results, so that equals massive under-reporting. Add that to countries that are economical with the truth and the answer is that official figures are basically not worth the paper.
But, what is important is that this is a nasty virus, official figures back up government restrictions and if we get through this, then even with dodgy figures it will have been worth it.
The next big problem is how are we going to pay for it all at the end of it. The U.K.will be massively in debt and will be for decades. You can't spend hundreds and hundreds of billions of pounds without a knock on effect.

the entire world is in debt, col. your statement is completely invalid and pointless. it just might come to pass that the entire world sees an agreement whereby a "debt reset" occurs. thus, no one will owe anyone else any money. that's a very real possibility, if leaders have any common sense left whatsoever.

Not UK alone. We are ahead of UK in the amount of debt. Maybe Japan has to pay for the effects of this virus more than any other country. We spent God knows how much money for Olympics and now it's cancelled. Or Postponed. They expected to make money out of it, but now look at the amount of zeros in our debt.

Someone said the whole world is in debt. There are at least 5 countries with no outside debt. These are, Macau, British Virgin Islands, Palau, Liechtenstein, and Brunei.
