Coronavirus - are we all doomed?

There are the covidiots, like ykw, who have to video themselves doing stupid things like licking products in stores or coughing on people.

If ANYONE deserves to catch something, the mad licker needs to. But I believe that tampering with food in that way is a minor felony in some states. Certainly a misdemeanor everywhere.

Realistically, there is no preparation for a "black swan" event. Once it happens people frantically begin to scream that "something" should have been done. But think about it, we do not know in advance the nature and/or extent of the "black swan" event. Every-time one drives a car, it is possible that the battery will fail, a tire will fail, the transmission will fail. So does that mean we should tow a spare car? One can plan for a high probability event, such as a blown tire; but not everything. Consequently, we will never really be prepared.

Someday, the Earth may be hit by an asteroid. One such asteroid hit wiped-out the dinosaurs. To proactively respond to to the "why aren't we prepared" naysayers, shouldn't we have established a task force dedicated to be becoming prepared?

I have a fairly extensive first aid kit. Prior to the virus outbreak, my wife broke a finger, which was put in a brace by a doctor. We had to use the first aid kit to clean and re-bandage her finger. What I found out is that many of the supplies in the kit had expired, so we had to buy replacement items. My point - stocking up on supplies works up to a point, but eventually they need to be replaced. So how much $$$ needs to be dedicated to supplies that may never be used?
Think-you are prepared? Think again.

I like to think that I am prepared for the unexpected. Well once again I was proven wrong. I have a small solar powered set-up to run an amateur radio and provide some minimal 12V power. The battery turned out to be "dead". For how long, I don't know. Fortunately, in the meantime, we did not have an apocalypses. No zombies showed-up.

As with my "old" first aid kit, stuff gets decrepit and expires. So maintaining preparedness is a never ending task. (Prior to the last hurricane season, we did clean-out our expired food. Soon we will need to repeat.) Expectations of ever being prepared for a pandemic, such as the Corona virus are really wishful thinking as you will never truly know the nature of a "black swan event" until it happens.

Whilst tidying out the shed I found a tin of Jacob's cream crackers. Obviously purchased for, or obtained as a Christmas present. I've no idea how long it had been in the shed. The tin, sealed around the lid with a plastic Sellotape seal.. The biscuits looked OK if a bit pale, but they were flaky, powdery and just tasted stale. I thought the idea of biscuits was they would last and last and last, but obviously not!

Now US stands in first place.
But I'm sure neither China nor Iran are announcing the correct number of infection and deaths.

Tera, I cannot dispute you. China has been hiding info about corona from the very beginning and Iran is not noted for being very forthcoming either.

New York city is poised to be the hottest place on the planet for COVID-19, that might explain why there is an exodus by planes trains and autos to warmer climates. To add insult to injury some cities and states are giving early release to some criminals.

@The_Doc_Man It may end up to a lot of arguments and eventually thread high jacking which I hate, but as a side note, I believe it doesn't end up to China or Iran alone. I believe all the governments that are based on Communism or religion are always hiding any kind of info from their own people and from the world. Because if they have had told the truth, they wouldn't exist at all.

Who can believe Russia with that population has only 830 infections and only 3 deaths? Or North Korea with 0 infections?
North Korea is completely dependent to China and a lot of workers pass the border daily and go to China to work. And their food mostly comes from China. 0 infection is just a joke and they expect the world believe them.

China was slow to get started on taking action but they were very serious when they did and totally shut down the affected areas. The Chinese people did what they were told and are coming out the other side of it. Their next problem will be when people start believing it has passed.

The US has a complete idiot in charge who started out claiming it was a hoax, kept making ridiculous suggestions and expects everything is going to be fine by Easter. Plus evangelist church leaders who are telling people not to do anything different. Many US citizens are in deep denial and refuse to do anything sensible. Vast numbers will die before it is gotten under control with a vaccine.

Unfortunately we have a similar problem in Australia. Our PM is even dumber than Trump and is an evangelist.

The argument being should someone too poor to afford bail get a death sentence.

Just read an article of a small church in Arkansas where something like 37 people got infected at a service.

The Chinese people did what they were told ....

They were forced to. It's a big difference. We had live news showing their police beating or arresting those who came out of their home.
And most of Japan's Mask Companies have their shops in China. China government recruited 90% of these companies' products and used it for their own people while we were standing in long lanes for hours to buy one or two mask.

Now that we are all in personal isolation (quarantine), my wife was wondering how we will greet each other in the future now that we can't touch and everyone will be germophobic. That prompted me to think of an entrepreneurial project, so that @vba_php - Adam can pursue some real productive work. Developing and selling disposable virus killing greeting gloves.

They wielded some people in their houses.

i have plenty to do without the need to listen to your nonsense, Steve - O. everything I do is productive, but of course none of you "experts" here can see it. nor will you probably ever. which of course I care not one thing about.

Somewhat masochistic of you to be hanging-out with your inferiors. Seems to be a waste of your precious time.

my time *is* precious. but what would you say if I said I hang out here and respond to you guys strictly to humor myself and have fun? Would you believe me if I said that? and they probably have not banned me permanently yet because I *have* helped questions askers here as of late. so there *is* some productivity that can come out of me, you see?

How would you feel about seasoned criminals being released?
Thats not really who's being released. Pretrial detainees, especiallty those that are infirm, non- violent offenders, Short timers who have served the majority of their sentences. Most hard timers are out of luck. You'd be surprised at how many cases fall apart before trial and charges are dropped so many of those are also considered.
