Coronavirus - are we all doomed?

We are getting that "airborne" information. Just a couple of nights ago, the police drove down Bourbon Street using their car loudspeakers to ask people to not gather in large groups in public due to the corona pandemic. We are seeing shows that tell us to stay at least six feet away from others if you must go out.

Doc, they are saying the same over here about social distancing. But I have not heard one single government official say that most transmission is by air. It deludes people into thinking that washing your hands is the main solution, in my view.

Also, I am not happy with the information coming out of our government. A few days ago, our prime minister said we are one month behind Italy. At that time, I noted down the current stats on that day. My own calculations showed that we were 2 weeks behind Italy, not one month. My instant reaction was that the government is playing it down, rather than giving us the objective facts. Anyways, yesterday, another government minister was talking and saying we are one to two weeks behind Italy. I'm sorry, but on such an important issue, why are we not getting a consistent story from the government? It is misinformation and leads to people thinking we have more time than we actually have before we batten down the hatches.

I haven't seen that movie Adam. I do watch a lot of movies, and it is likely I will be watching a whole bunch more in the coming months!

Our local schools are shut down. A lot of public events have been canceled. A couple of notes. I recently heard that 25% of Italy's population is 65 or older. They got hit pretty quickly before we know as much as we know now. I heard on a news talk show that Israel has been working on a vaccine for a strain of the corinavirus that affected chickens. They now are focused on a vaccine for humans.

There are a couple of drugs being tested in Australia to help those with covid-19. They are an HIV antiviral and one for malaria. Apparently, they wiped out the bugs in those that they tried it on. So, since they are already approved for safety, it would be great if they can roll out their use. They are doing a clinical trial shortly.

Ot sure of the percentage, but it is higher than most of the world's. Also, the degree of skin-to-skin contact is, until recently, prevalent. A casual greeting involves holding hands and a cheek to cheek kiss...even amongst the men.

To see them acting the way they are acting now is just un-Italian and disheartening.

At last, the UK government is doing something about the corona. Its recommending working from home, not going to pubs, theatres etc. Then, coming soon, over 70's or those with health issue to avoid social contact for 3 months.

Just saw something on the news. I think I have this right but not 100% sure. Best case scenario, 250,000 dead in the UK and lockdown until vaccine, which is in 1 to 1.5 years time. ☹

Imperial College London are advising the UK government and the information came from them. I hope I have this wrong, but that was the impression I got from what I saw. Devastating if true.

Edit: The 250K number was based on if the UK didn't change their approach to a lockdown.

We all know Mr Trump tells the truth. He said it's a foreign disease and not a problem. So obviously, the USA is exempt from Coronavirus.
