Corona status

So, as others have said, emergency care is always available and that's why uninsured people go to the emergency room when they have a cold
i don't think i understand that one. that seems like a consequence of ignorance more than anything else. why would a head cold be an emergency?

Will we have to carry a "non-infectious" card
Only if we have have completely lost our senses. We have already gone quietly to the slaughter over this media enhanced crisis and given up large sections of the bill of rights. Thousands of businesses will never reopen and that means those job losses will be permanent. The people affected are those that can least survive. The bills that have been passed so far, will so impoverish the country that our grand children's grand children will still be in debt.

The NY Times is now printing op-eds as news and they are pushing the Chinese talking points and trying to blame the whole thing on Trump. This from the newspaper that refused to print news about the Holocaust which kept the American people in the dark throughout WWII until our troupes finally started liberating the camps and there was no covering it up any more. Do you really think that Americans would have flatly refused to accept Jewish refugees from Europe if they had any idea of what was going on? I really hope not.

The president better not sign the "Patriot" Act. It was extended temporarily but unless people actually go to jail, NOTHING will stop them from abusing the FISA courts in the future. The abuses go all the way back to when Mueller was in charge. Yes the Mueller of the Mueller report. His people were reprimanded repeatedly over their abuses but nothing happened.

When your child is crying and coughing and his nose is stuffed, would you go to the emergency room if you had no access to a doctor or no money to pay a walk-in center? This was one of the big selling points of ObamaCare. It was going to save us tons of money to insure all the uninsured because WE, the American people, foot the bill for the uninsured's misuse of emergency rooms.

well you can expect that to continue happening Pat because like I said many times before the corporate world and governments produce ignorant people there's no way around that inevitability

That's one of the things Jesus trying to explain to poor people but then again and they didn't understand him like they don't understand an intelligent person when they talk to them

Tornado outbreak in the South leaves at least 30 dead
The death toll from the storms so far is staggering: Eleven people were killed in Mississippi, nine were found dead in South Carolina, and six more died in northwest Georgia. Others died under falling trees or inside collapsed buildings in Arkansas and North Carolina.

In Mississippi and Louisiana, the system spawned at least 13 radar-confirmed tornadoes Sunday that damaged up to 300 homes and buildings. More than 60,000 customers were without power across the two states.

As these type of events occur, the need to "open" the economy becomes ever more urgent. We cannot repair the damage to these areas if people are required to "shelter in place". (Many of these people have no "shelter" now and have to go somewhere to be taken care of.) People need to have the ability to get-out and work.

To be fair Doc everything you just said above Col already knows, he's just winding up anyone who cares to answer he's bored... similar to Adam.

He's Adam light without Jesus.
AB, I think your comment is out of order. I know you despise me and have done for years, BUT, in over 20 years, I have never called another member stupid names, I have never used foul language. Yes, on occasions I have been somewhat mischievous with some comments, usually to Americans, but not exclusively.
Regarding the medical insurance discussion. This subject is totally alien to most UK people, yes, Doc has tried to explain things in the past, but then new words appear, like Medicare, Obamacare etc. Is that free? I have no idea. How do you get it? Sign up for it? Or reach a specific age? That's why it's a mystery. I can't see how a doctor who's oath is to save and heal people, can suddenly say 'sorry pal, no treatment'.

Doc, yes, we pay a portion of salary to run the NHS, not including dentists. The downside, is yes, we have to wait for a routine operation - sometimes wait years depending on the urgency, we also have to wait for an out patient appointment to see a specialist, again sometimes months after referral from our family doctor (GP).

I know AB will think I am just winding everyone up, but he is wrong. Oh, I am nothing like Adam, I have morals and principles and I have a boundary I never step over.

Paraphrasing what you said to Adam the other day "shut your Yankee mouth" you may have thrown in a troll comment.

BTW I actually like you, I chuckle out loud at your comments.

I'd have a beer with you, as long as it wasn't warm.

that says just about anything I want to know about the people around here. But then again I knew that long ago. Actually now that I'm speaking into my phone and putting up this post it makes me wonder if I'm going to get an automated message from Colin again regarding inappropriate comments

He is a Yankee and he has a big mouth, he was rude to Doc and others. There is no need for it.

Beer ? Yes lovely. I'll pay. If I am forced to have a cold beer (we call it lager) and it tastes like pond water like Budweiser, I let it warm up before attempting to drink it. Much better to have a pint of real beer rather than cold gnats piss.

actually yes there is a need for it sometimes. Especially in the business world if people get out of line and they act utterly stupid the only way to open their eyes is to be rude to them. Kind of like my father did a long time ago when I was at Universal Studios in California where some Asian guy came up and pushed me away from him and he pushed the Asian guy back and the guy looked at him like he was crazy because it's common nature for people to be pushy in Asia and especially in China. I will never forget that culture based story as long as I live that's a good one

Col, you asked a couple of questions. I see that I did, indeed, toss in some regionalisms. "Obamacare" is the popular and totally unofficial name of the Affordable Care Act, an act of Congress which set up clearinghouses for obtaining cheaper, sometimes partially subsidized health insurance, targeted for people of limited means. No, it is NOT free. In theory it was supposed to get everybody under some sort of health care umbrella. In actual practice, it didn't work that way. It became just an extension of Medicare. The provisions that were meant to penalize people who didn't get health care coverage were so flimsy - and the available insurance was still so expensive - that huge numbers of folks chose to pay the "no-coverage" penalty rather than buy the insurance. Because of that, and because it was an unwieldy bastard of a law, insurance companies dropped out of the "exchanges" where folks could look for coverage, thus limiting choices to plans that had such high deductible rates or such poor coverage that you might as well have not had any coverage at all.

"Medicare" is the much older national health insurance program that is partly paid by working people through payroll deductions and it is again subsidized, this time by the fact that you have already put in money for it earlier in your career. For the most part, you must be retired to be on Medicare but there are exceptions.

That's why it's a mystery. I can't see how a doctor who's oath is to save and heal people, can suddenly say 'sorry pal, no treatment'.

The doctor's oath is to save and heal people, but once a person's life is no longer in immediate danger, the question is whether they will get continuing treatment at the hospital or whether they have to get cheaper treatment via outpatient clinics or just "tough it out." The doctor isn't the problem. It is the insurance company or the hospital's bean counter who will slam the door shut on the indigent patients. It is never something we want to consider but the truth is that there are limits. Our limits relate to costs of limited resources. Your limits relate to scheduling of limited resources.

Ah, THAT explains why you have spent so much time looking for jobs.

Thanks Doc, I understand much more now, a good explanation as always from you. I did pick up though about level of coverage, I suppose it's the more you pay, the better the care / treatment.
Ok, a question - is the American healthcare system good? Or do you pay insurance because there's nothing better?

Col

In Massachusetts we started with Romneycare, the template for Obamacare. It works well in Ma. We have a large percentage of covered people and it is not that expensive.

Señor Adam: Why are you always so racial and demeaning? Refering to "you people" and other racial overtones.
