God is Evil

Hey Shadow,

If you don't mind and it won't look too bad, I think I'm going to bow out of the conversation. Not with my tail tucked but I really think this is too big of a subject to try to keep typing out point/counterpoint. Too bad we live so far apart because I would enjoy the dialogue that you mentioned. I do agree that two opposing sides can have a dialogue, as long as that is where it stays. I have had a number of those conversations and I believe that are enjoyable and informative, but that it is a conversation. I find typing and trying to make your point far too taxing. On the other hand I have had it go the other way too. My experiences have been that I don't see much difference between the two sides when it comes to being a verbal bully. Christian as well as atheist. I appreciate your calm exchange and that you did not resort to implications. Just made your points.

I got the "reading books" part mixed up. It was Speaker and not you that said that so once again, my bad.

Lastly, you are right about I just wanted to give a different approach or thought to the subject, which wasn't responded to, and then it went from there to the Bible is a fairy tale subject. I really do think both camps have valid points and I find both sides to be very interesting to listen to, when they stay on subject.

Enjoyed it!

Ok, I do agree. I was going to address some of the other points until I realized how much typing and rereading it would take to present an intelligent (?) argument. As the work week will resume tomorrow, I won't have as much time to dedicate so here's a good time to call it a day. I'm also glad that it was respectful.

Cheers

SHADOW

Of course it is my fault that you couldn't follow the continuity of the thread.

Glad that's cleared up

If you try and say that I had never read any book in my life, the only possible reason would be illiteracy.

Not necessarily, some people may be blind or have an illness which doesn't allow them to turn pages or hold a book. It's possible you may have some debilitating illness.

How thick are you?

I'm tempted to answer this, but I'll leave it for now.

And you're entitled to yours. Shame it's the racist rantings of a bitter old fart.

I'd be interested in your thoughts as to why you think (incorrectly) I am racist.

BTW - had a lovely chinky at the weekend. Sweet and sour chicken, chicken in sweet chilli sauce with cashew nuts and egg fried rice.

I see no racist remarks in this thread, what do you base that on:rolleyes:

Just take a look his comments regarding Americans.

Shame it's a typical American comment.

But Americans do exaggerate alot, just meet some on holiday and they think they're gods gift

As you are American I think we have all learnt to take what Americans say with a pinch of salt anyway. Most of it is exaggeration or fabrication, and it seems you fall nicely into those categories.

Seems to me as though Colin is of the belief that race is a primary determinant of traits and capacities of people. This is racism.

Ok - take this situation.

If someone says something about people that is true, is that racism?

What is racism? Saying some people tend to exaggerate? Saying some people think they're gods gift? Or saying someone is a ****** or a slitty eyed chink?

Have you never said of someone that they tell tall tales? Is that racism?

I think young Chuggy you need to get out a bit and see more of life - then come back and have a constructive conversation.

Methinks it's because you tend to generalise about an entire nation that our distant friends see your remarks as racist. But who doesn't generalise? This is the watercooler area, maybe we need a politically correct area for those with slightly thinner skins...

It gives the impression of racism when you apply generalisations about an entire nationality. While many americans may think they are God's gift there are also other americans who don't. Also when you describe some of chergh's comments as typically american even tho' he gives his location as Newbury which is in England. No evidence to suggest he is American - typical or otherwise.

Saying something about a person is not racist but you attach your views to a whole race, that is racist.

I explained what racism is:

the belief that race is a primary determinant of traits and capacities of people

All your gross quote, which I haven't included here, does is demonstrate some racism is more offensive than others but it is still racism.

Continue to delude yourself that it isn't racism if you want but the simple truth is that it is racist and therefore you are a racist.

This isn't about political correctness or skin thickness. I don't find racism acceptable so where I see I confront it head on.

Are you really wanting an area where people can be racist:confused:

I'd much prefer an area where deliberate baiting could be quarantined.
